It probably wouldn't be so bad if this prologue was a bit longer and covered a bit more ground, but this? It only exists to prevent the book cold opening right where Recon left off.Īlso, this is the only time Sarah O'Neil appears in this novel, which is a shame, because it would be nice to have a recurring human female character who wasn't Sha'uri or Barbara Shore, given their massive flaws.

So, by having this short ass prologue that barely adds anything to the story besides getting recaps out of the way, everything else is crammed into 19 chapters.

Why? Well, the guy seems contractually obligated to keep his novels at or around 20 chapters long, which partly explains the pacing problems these books have.
