Foster, Michael Roden, Ed Dorn, Rory Hayes, Bill Shut and others also made contributions. In 1984 Rodriguez made a contribution to the comic book 'Queen of Hairy Flies', to which other underground artists like S. Rodriguez continued to work for magazines like Zap, LA Weekly, Twistgrip and Blab magazine.

There is also an anthology on 'Trashman' in existence, which has been published by Fantagraphic Books. His style could be called a 'bold line' style of drawing, especially when employed on his 'Trashman' comics (about a middle American revolutionary). 'Trashman' is probably Rodriguez' best known creation and one of the most enduring characters in the comics underground. He was one of the founders of the United Cartoon Workers of America. He also had his work published in comix like Insect Fear, Anarchy Comics, Arcade, San Francisco Comic Book and Tales of the Leather Nun. In 1969, he moved to San Francisco, where he got to know many of the early underground comix artists, such as Robert Crumb, for whom he contributed work to his comic Zap. In 1967, he was asked by the editor to do an all-comics tabloid, titled 'Zodiac Mindwarp', which was the forerunner of 'The Gothic Blimpworks'. His experiences on the road with them have pervaded much of his comic work, which he started when he was working for alternative newspaper The East Village Other.

An avid biker, he began associating there with the Road Vultures, an outlaw gang. Spain Rodriguez was born in Buffalo, New York and studied at the Silvermine Guild Art School in Norwalk, Connecticut. (Oct.The Ride of the Valkyrie (LA Weekly, 2003) His art is muscular and unfussy, though oddly square, as if Mark Trail had suddenly discovered the genius of Karl Marx and Simón Bolívar. While Rodriguez allows hints of criticism to seep in here and there, this is for the most part unalloyed hagiography, which can seem more like something produced by revolutionary committee than an artist. By folding Guevara's biographical narrative (already well-traveled by multiple other sources) into one that draws out his growing political awareness, Rodriguez keeps Guevara's beliefs front and center throughout this eventful but thickly worded book. Guevara's by-now legendary motorcycle and hitchhiking wanderings around South America are portrayed with some levity, while the Cuban revolution and its aftermath are covered with an impressive command of the event's sociopolitical context. Rodriguez tracks Guevara's development from adventurous but asthmatic middle-class Argentinean medical student to messianic revolutionary with aplomb. Unfortunately, relatively little of that class's avant-garde flash or humor shows up in his worshipful graphic biography of Ernesto “Che” Guevara.
